Yes, no longer will “Mac gamer” be tant amount to an oxymoron. With immediate access to all first party titles, there is undoubtedly more fantastic news to come. There is a bit of a hang up though. Steam may be available, yes, but the game library is not. If you can't wait to have the platform ready to go, then here is the link. Happy gaming everyone. (Posted by: Harrison Milfeld) The majority of this generation of gamers may recall the beginnings of the 8-bit era with the Nintendo Entertainment System, which soon led to the 16-bit wars between SEGA and Nintendo. It was a glorious time of insults and many gamers trying to figure out what Blast Processing really was in the first place. Kyle Downes (the same guy who made an NES coffee table) put together this informative video about gaming's origins from Ralph Baer's Magnavox Odyssey to the current generation of consoles. Take note, readers. There might be a quiz on this video later. This week we talk about used games at walmart, Game Crazy/Movie Gallery going under, call of duty 7, the Bungie-Activision partnership, Mario Galaxy 2, iPad 3g and Twitter glitches, and to top it off, some of us end up drinking too much tequila and slurring our words to sweet island beats Stream it from the podcast page or subscribe on iTunes here (Posted by: Kyle Boedeker) Wal-Mart, the one stop shop for both guns and baby clothes, has decided to try its hand at the used video games market. The company released a statement confirming that they are currently working with a start-up called Game Trade to test their services in five Wal-Mart locations. According to the statement, the locations will offer "previously-owned" games, movies, and entertainment hardware for "store credit or cash." I don't know about you, but I've been itching to trade in my copy of Bioshock 2 for store credit towards a 30-pack of natural light.... and now I can! Wal-Mart.... making dreams come true. (Posted By: Kyle Boedeker) EA recently announced that in their upcoming sports franchise titles would be a one time use ticket that grants the user access to features such as online multiplayer, downloadable content, new rosters, and user created characters, etc.. If you buy the game used, the only way to access these features is by purchasing a title-specific online pass for $10. GameStop, although you would think would be quite upset over this announcement, has released a statement saying they are excited to partner with such a "forward thinking publisher." This is the first real step toward what will probably be the future of the used game market. By segmenting the market in this way, it might allow used versions of games to be sold at a cheaper price because of the ten dollar premium associated with online play. This means that you won't have to pay for online functionality of you aren't going to use it. (Posted by: Alex Deckard) Here at Gameshoe, gaming is very close to our heart. This should be obvious, being that we are a gaming website, but nonetheless, we continue to say it. It is for this reason that we like to keep a close eye on the plight of gamers around the world. Often-times, this gargantuan gaze of gaming grandeur falls on our friends in Australia, land of the open Outback, a world where life can be rough and tumble, violent and dangerous, but video games can't. That's right, apparently it's not okay for any game to be released down under that doesn't meet the government standards for a 15+ rating. This means no mature games, and their ratings board is far stricter than the ESRB. However, the Australian government has decided to ask the public what they think about the possibility of an R-18+ rating for games in a nationwide poll. As you can see in the headline, the answer is an overwhelming "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YES!" Hopefully this will sway the minds of Australian politicians. This will be something to watch. (Posted by: Alex Deckard) Yes, four more fighters confirmed for MVC3! First off, we have Captain America, which is no surprise. Also, there's Dante from Devil May Cry, Felicia from Darkstalker, and the Merc with a Mouth himself, Deadpool. It's looking like an exciting lineup for this highly awaited game, slated to come out in spring 2011. We've still got a while to wait, but rest assured, it's coming. The only question remains, will it be as good as its predecessors? (Posted by: Harrison Milfeld) IGN recently broke news that Nintendo has announced their newest iteration of their Wii-based game line, Wii Party. The game was announced at an investor meeting by Nintendo CEO, Satoru Iwata. From the slim details given to us, the game will of course use all the mii's on your system and pit them against each other in a Mario Party-esque mini-game style of gameplay.
Yes, this may seem to be the tried-and-true method for these Wii-style of games, but changing things up by putting this title into the Mario Party world could be intriguing, if done correctly. Now, the question is: does this mean that Nintendo is replacing their hugely successful Mario Party franchise? The details are still scarce, but as a fan of the Mario Party series, Wii Party could be another huge hit for Nintendo. All that needs to be included is a robust online network, and the fun will surely be intense. Be sure to check out the screens embedded below. |
