In an attempt to reach stay-at-home soccer moms around the world, Apple is releasing their shiny new "must have" item of the year, the iPad, on Target's shelves as soon as October 3rd.

Both the WiFi/3G and WiFi only options will be available in the nation-wide retailer on launch day and around October 17th customers who have a Target credit card will even get a percentage off their brand new oversized iPod if they so choose.

Anyone cleared the date of October 3rd for a trip to Target yet?

Nintendo Readies the Wii Remote Plus, People Everywhere Saw It Coming

Leaky pictures are our favorite kind of pictures here at Gameshoe, but this one brings up less excitement and more "Why is this news"?

Remember a while back when Nintendo introduced the Wii Motion Plus add-on for the Wii remote to give it a little more accuracy and to squeeze a little more money out of consumers? Well the picture above seems that Nintendo is getting a laugh at everyone who bought one of those as now it seems they are adding them into the controllers themselves. As per Nintendo's amazing marketing strategy, add the controller in with a cheap to produce mini-game and you've got yourself a best seller.

If you were one of the people to buy one or two or four of the 25 dollar Wii Motion Plus cubes when they first came out, let me be the first to apologize because it seems that Nintendo has pulled a fast one once again.

Forge Review!

Halo: Reach has finally arrived, and Bungies last hurrah for the series does not disappoint.  I’ll be focusing on the aspect of Forge.  Firstly, it’s a whole different ballgame then it was in Halo 3.  Seriously.  There is a ridiculous amount of customizability inherent in the level creator.  Making a decent (or even, *gasp*, GOOD) map in Forge is easy.  You can take platforms and jam them in to walls.  This sounds stupid, but think about it.  Big-ass Cliffside with a bunch of platforms and rooms sticking out of it?  Cool.  That, but with jetpacks?  Awesome as hell.

There are few things more satisfying than a story well told, and to end the Story that began with Halo, we have its temporal predecessor Halo reach. Reach's story is ended before the game begins. We know that reach falls. We know that the pillar of autumn escapes. But even with this foreknowledge, we are drawn into this world once again. And here we have our hero, Noble 6. He joins the rest of Noble team, and they endeavor to survive on a planet doomed to annihilation.

Black and White Pokedex released ahead of US release

Pokemon Black and White, the pair of games that make up the 5th generation of Pokemon released in Japan earlier this week, and the community behind the games were quickly on it's tail.

The games were quickly ported over to the computer via ROMs and distributed around the interwebs and this list of the Pokemon was quickly compiled for those who are waiting around for the actual game to come out in the United States early next spring.

Leading up to the release of the ROMs, there was much speculation on a bunch of leaks whether the Pokemon were real or not and unfortunately for some, the starters ended up looking as they do now, and unfortunately for everyone, we have another Fire/Fighting type as the third evolution. That brings the number of 3 starters whose evolution ends up as fire/fighting in case you were keeping track.

None of these leaked Pokemon have had official American names yet but since we love you here at Gameshoe our protip of the day is as follows:
  • Common name for the water starter is: Wotter (Water and otter, get it?)
  • Common name for the fire starter is: Pignite (Ignite has to do with fire? So clever.)
  • Common name for the grass starter: Smugleaf (Look at him, he's just so damn smug!)
Keep an eye out for more Black and White news as the game gets closer to launch.

Shoe View Editorial: Will Kinect survive the holiday season?

With the launch of Playstation Move this week, the only other system yet to adopt a motion control system is Microsoft’s darling, the Xbox 360. Microsoft’s “Kinect” is planned to release this November but the question that is on everyone’s minds is will it do well or be banished by bad pricing issues to that graveyard that includes the Virtual Boy and the Power Glove?

Talking with another person who is in the video game business we were discussing the viability of Kinect, what it will do and what it won’t; more importantly what it promised to do and won’t be able to do. While all those are enough to constitute another editorial, the fact remains that Kinect stands on shaky ground with consumers at this point and the way that Microsoft has been backing off of previously stated promises isn’t helping the cause any.

Fan-made Pokémon trailer makes us forget about previous video game movies

Video game movies have been hit over the head by critics and gamers alike because f either their misrepresentation of their source material or for the fact that they don't translate well onto the silver screen. Now, not to beat a dead horse, but this "fact" seems it will continue until further notice. Until then, we have the Internet and its legions to help us get through the day with a fan-made live action Pokemon trailer.

This live action trailer was first mentioned during a presentation via a grainy recording to viewers. The title of the fan-made effort is Pokemon: Apokelypse. Yes, let that title sink in for a bit. Of course, a movie of this magnitude would suck like others (re: Dragonball: Evolution), but we must tip out hats to the filmmakers behind this effort. It's certainly a great nod to the amazing fan-made video game trailers we've seen over the years.

Bioshock: Infinite screens will give you vertigo

Bioshock 2 may not have been everyone's cup of plasmid, but 2K Games and developer Irrational Games hope to take the series to new heights...okay bad pun, but you get the point. During the summer, 2K Games released a teaser trailer for Infinite, which showcased new plasmid power-ups, organic-esque Big Daddies and a stylish new setting that takes place in the upper reaches of the Earth. All has been quite since then, but 2K has now released five new screens that introduce the game's new protagonist, Elizabeth, who looks to usher in some new type of plasmid power that we here at Gameshoe are curious as to how it works. Bioshock: Infinite is currently slated for a 2012 release.
