Konami and Marvel announce port of 1992's X-Men Arcade

A lot of Uncanny X-Men love has been going around this weekend, as Marvel revealed some information about one of their classic arcade titles.Yesterday at a Comic-Con New York panel, Marvel announced that Konami will be releasing a port of their 1992 arcade X-Men beat-em-up to Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.

For those who remember, the 1992 X-Men arcade game was one of many popular beat-em ups from Konami (TMNT: Arcade, Turtles in Time, etc.) that reigned supreme and made us beg our parents for chunk change. Just to refresh, X-Men arcade allowed you to play as one of six mutants: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, or Dazzler. As one of six mutants, it's up to the X-Men to rescue Professor X and Kitty Pryde from Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The game was -of course- not based on the popular X-Men animated series from Fox Kids, but rather from a failed TV pilot, X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men, from 1989. The animation from the pilot later served as the basis for the classic Konami arcade title, but we all know that the later attempt at an X-Men cartoon would prove to be a better decision on Fox's part.

Early 90s TV nostalgia aside, the X-Men arcade port will be able to support up to six players in a drop-in multiplayer feature and will include various difficulty settings. Marvel and Konami did not offer anything concrete on a release date, but the two sides said to expect more information in the coming months. Now that a slew of classic Konami arcade titles have or are being readied for online distribution, does this mean we'll see a future release of The Simpsons arcade title? Please take note, Konami.

You all remember Silicon Knights, right? You know, the developer who made the Gamecube psychological thriller, Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid remake? They've been under the radar as of late. Sure, the company left the cusp of Nintendo's care and moved onto better things, yet we still wonder what's going on in the Candadian-based developer's world.  But, who would have knew that Silicon Knights' next game would based on a much beloved comic book series? That's right, folks; Silicon Knights is making an X-Men game titled, X-Men: Destiny.

The game was revealed yesterday by Activision, and it pits the player in a group of mutant recruits. Activision has said that the storyline to X-Men: Destiny would allow for plenty of choices in the vein of Mass Effect; however, the style of gameplay is still unknown. Our guess is pointing more toward an RPG-esque X-Men title, which Activision has had some success with the X-Men: Legends line of games.

More information is expect during the weekend at the New York Comic Con. Until then, check out Silicon Knight's X-Men: Destiny teaser trailer below.

We've seen it poorly filmed with no sound over the shoulders of gaming reporters, and now we can watch it on a big ass screen in Amsterdam!  It's the first level footage, complete with meta-jokes!

Shoe View Editorial: Medal of Honor Takes Out the Word "Taliban"

I can't say that I didn't see this coming but unfortunately it finally happened. EA, after months of backing their game and the use of the word "Taliban" in the multiplayer section of their upcoming game, has gone and changed one word to make the world happy. The word "Taliban" has now been replaced with "Opposing Force" in all multiplayer portions of the game. Funny thing is, that's all that's changed.

Greg Goodrich, the executive producer of the game, released a statement today that said that he has "received feedback from all over the world regarding the multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor." And while he goes on to say that most of it was positive, he still made the call to take the word "Taliban" out of the game. The question that stands now is, what does one word mean to people? Read more after the break.

Gears of War 3 is bumped to Holiday 2011

Joystiq has reported that Epic Games' Gears of War 3 has been delayed from April 2011 to the holiday season of 2011. We are not amused; I can hear the thousands of gamers who pre-ordered Gears 3 are now twitching in agony.

The reason behind the delay is that Microsoft and the developers at Epic Games "elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season."

Well, not surprising, but it's quite possible that Epic wanted to to give their upcoming first-person shooter, Bulletstorm, a little breathing room for the first-quarter of 2011.
