Kinect sells one million in ten days. How many Kinect accidents does that equal?

Coming under a Christmas tree near you.
We here at Gameshoe may seem skeptical about the Kinect with its rather high price point, the possible endangerment of injuring ourselves, and a library of games that lack a true AAA title; however, that hasn't stopped gamers form plopping down their money for this new motion-sensing peripheral. Within the first ten days of release, Microsoft has been able to sell one million Kinects. Don Mattrick of Microsoft's Entertainment Business had a few words to say about the early success of Kinect:

“We are appreciative of the response we have seen from consumers that has culminated in sales of more than one million units in the first 10 days on the market for Kinect for Xbox 360. This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than five million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year.”

Mattrick's optimism clearly shows the company's faith in the peripheral, but five million Kinects by year's end? That sounds like a stretch, but the industry has seen huge gaming trends explode during the holiday season. Although, one item still remains at large: How many people have injured themselves or broken their TVs because of this peripheral? We're curious, people.

If this set included a special edition arcade pad, then this sucker would be sold out in minutes.
Capcom has announced the release date for their much-anticipated fighter Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The third iteration in the Marvel vs. Capcom series will ship on February 15, 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. If this were an arcade cabinet, I don't think I'd have enough quarters to keep me satisfied while playing. This fighting series by Capcom is a big deal to some.

Aside from the usual retail copy of the game, Capcom has also revealed a special edition for $69.99. The special edition (shown above in glorious fashion) will include some rather interesting goodies such as two bonus characters (Jill Valentine of the Resident Evil series and Shuma Gorath from the Marvel universe). The set also includes a steelbook case with exclusive art work, a comic/art book that serves as a prologue to the game, a one-month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, and two playable DLC characters (mentioned above) that will be available four weeks after the launch of the game.

As of now, two new characters for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have been announced yesterday, which are Zero and She-Hulk (trailer reveal here). We'll have more news on the various character reveals as the weeks go by, so stay tuned.

THQ Has got Some Announcements.

Alex, listen up. CEO of THQ, Brian Farrell recently had an interview with the guys over at Gamasutra and spilled a few beans that could grow into some tall beanstalks later on down the road.

The company really wants to attack the $60 price point that has recently taken over the industry with a variety of ways. The first is to sell at $40 and then try to make income off the DLC that will be sold for the game. Not a bad idea.

What's an even better idea? Making money in other media to cover those losses, like MOVIES!

According to THQ, the company will formally announce a major motion picture based on their Saints Row franchise, one near and dear to our editor-in-chief's heart. But that's not the only extent THQ is going to to make a few bucks.

Homefront, the upcoming game where North Korea invades the United States, is getting a novel set and even Red Faction is getting it's share of the fun. The game is getting it's own pilot TV show on the Syfy Channel. Excited yet? I am. I know Alex is.

In a case of "Oh Microsoft, what are you doing?" this story has leaked out onto the internet recently, showing how much money Microsoft is making off your hard earned money.

That brand new shiney Kinect that you just paid $150 dollars for? Only cost Microsoft a mere $56 dollars to make said UBM TechInsights. The biggest chunk of said money is spent on the "reference system" that includes the processor, microphones and cameras that go into this technology.

We here at Gameshoe appreciate making a profit, lord knows we don't do it here, but $100 dollar profit on each system sold? That's a little bit high if you ask us. Nevertheless, Microsoft plans on selling 5 million of these babies around Christmas time. Let's hope all that 'profit' goes into developing a badass next-gen console.

The newest adventure in the Metal Gear game series titled “Metal Gear: Rising” will continue the trend of a no-kill completion option that has been present in the past three Metal Gear console installments.

The latest MGS follows the story of Raiden, who audiences first encountered as the protagonist in Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty. “Rising” features “cyborg ninja Raiden” on his high frequency hack ‘n slash adventure cutting a swath through an endless amount of enemies, both human and robotic.

This Tuesday, gamers and politicians alike will know of the Supreme Court's decision regarding California's violent video game law. The proposed California law would restrict the sale of violent video games to minors and fine retailers $2000 if they were to do so. The hearing has been going on since earlier this week, so all eyes will be on Washington as the decision awaits. In the meantime, we have The Daily Show to make us laugh long and hard about how our country's politicians are arguing about an issue that's been blown out of proportion for more than a decade. Then again, combining an assault riffle with Family Game Night (as shown in the above clip) could spell doom for my annual casual gamer blowout bash.

EA's NBA Elite 11 gets the axe

'EA shoots...and misses!'
After many delays from its intended September release, Electronic Arts has officially canceled NBA Elite 11. EA's chief financial officer Eric Brown announced that NBA Elite was no longer in their pipeline during an investor call. Brown stated that future development of the franchise will be handed down to EA Tiburon in Orlando, with former developer EA Canada being let go permanently from the project. The series formerly known as NBA Live was hoping for a resurrection of sorts with Elite; however, Elite was delayed in September because of supposed glitches and what EA Sports president Peter Moore claimed as "concerns about gameplay polish."

With only one NBA game coming from EA this season (the arcade-style NBA Jam), this raises a few questions about what it will take for the company's premier basketball sim to get over it's proverbial hump. Also, this could (a very BIG maybe) be the first time that a game was canceled after the initial demo was released.

Only time will tell, as EA Tiburon takes the reigns from EA Canada.
