Do you like being a Hero? Are you a fan of Justice? Have you ever called the local Taco Bell cashier “Taco Wench”? Then Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue could be the game for you! Recently announced as the sequel to the original Deathspank, which was released this past July by Hothead Studios, is going to be what the developer hopes to be a much larger game. Yet instead of working with the creators of Penny-Arcade, they made the original Deathspank with Ron Gilbert who is famous for the original Monkey Island series. The game centers on the heroic and oftentimes obliviousDeathspank as he travels around his fantasy-esque world going on quests for justice, and doing other things on his list of “Non important things I need to do”. One of Gilbert’s main additions to the video game genre was humor in his games. This is no different in Deathspank. The first offering gave gamers a Diablo like experience with a top down view yet focusing on action and humor. Thongs of Virtue “will have more adventure and puzzle questing in this game, but the hack and slash remains,” say the developers. Hothead Studios also hopes to make it a much larger game, and obviously add new features. One of the largest additions I noticed is one that gamers can only enjoy: Guns. With the Deathspank series having a tongue in cheek sense of humor, the developers obviously don’t need a good reason why this fantasy universe has access to guns. The first game was a great experience for DLC price, and even though most saw it as a good time waster, I found it to be a full experience with a lot of great humor which can be really hard to find in games today. Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue will be released on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade for $15 or 1200 Points for the latter. Hothead Studios says it should be available sometime in September.
