Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still alive, but with a new development team

I'll admit, I cried foul when Beyond Good & Evil 2 did not make an appearance at E3 2010. I was starting to get paranoid about whether or not Ubisoft had any faith in the title,  considering that its predecessor was a flop. Any type of new regarding the title would be comforting, and guess what, we got some good news; some of which offers a huge glimmer of hope for this anticip

According to a report from Eurogamer, Michael Ancel, famed Ubisoft game designer, stated that the sequel to the critically-acclaimed Beyond Good & Evil was chugging along, despite rumors of cancellation. The game is being developed by a "smaller team" (Ubisoft Montpellier) in order "to preserve creativity and so the game doesn't become a commercial product, so that is has soul." That last quote is enough to give a thumbs-up of approval.

Ancel also added that BG&E2 will employ the same technology as the newest Rayman title that was announced during Ubisoft's E3 press conference. He also mentioned that this technology will be able to help "preserve the artistic spirit."

Prince of Persia now the highest-grossing video game film of all-time

Despite a cumulative score of 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time managed to become the highest-grossing video game film ever.  As of June 22, Prince of Persia has made $82,716,037 domestically, (which Disney finds to be a financial disappointment) but with international grosses, its total stands at $295,816,037. With a box-office gross of almost $300 million, the film surpasses the previous record holder, Laura Croft: Tomb Raider, which bowed out at $274 million in 2001. Prince of Persia may have been panned by critics during its release, but this gives producer Jerry Bruckheimer enough bragging rights to warrant a sequel. Just one note, Mr. Bruckheimer: Please, don't go too much overboard with the next film; the script was lacking the first time around.

Now, before everyone starts erupting over that proclamation, let me say that the footage is possibly not in-game. However, given the power the 3DS is capable of, then it's enough to get all of us excited for when this bad boy will release. Enjoy, folks. Try not to drool all over your keyboard from the sexy footage.

3DS to be in "all of major markets by March 31," says Nintendo

It hasn't been a week since the doors at E3 2010 closed and everyone cannot stop talking about the 3DS. The technology infused into Nintendo's new handheld device has many clamoring for what else the 3DS is capable of doing. However, one item remains untouched: the price. The 3DS price could remain a mystery of months, but at least Nintendo has given a timeframe of its release.

“One thing, for sure, is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Industry Gamers on Monday.

Fils-Aime added that they did not announce a specific pricing or availability, because Nintendo "wanted to get a reaction first." Whatever the cost of the handheld or when we can pre-order it, gamers still have massive amounts of coverage of the 3DS to drool over for the time being. I for one am willing to sell my future first-born child just to get my hands on that sexy device.

Sure, it's only the day after the big three console makers flexed their tech muscles, but that doesn't mean Konami can tout its upcoming titles. One game that's sure to get fans excited is the announcement of the tentatively-titled Silent Hill 8, which will be developed by Vatra Games. The game will release simultaneously for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, with no further details (aside from a quick teaser) being discussed. The teaser showed off the game's new protagonist, Murphy Pendleton, a convict who escapes after his prison transport crashes in the woods. Sooner than you can say, "Pyramid Head," Pendleton finds himself in the not-so-pleasant town of Silent Hill.

Now you can act like Tom Cruise in Minority Report
Microsoft's  E3 press conference may have not been as strong as Sony and Nintendo's, but gamers were able to see how the company's foray into motion control will affect their holiday push. Despite the mass amount of demonstrations, Microsoft revealed a release date for Kinect (formerly Project Natal) on November 4, along with the support of 15 launch titles. No price point was announced, but Microsoft promises to reveal that during the summer.

Many of Kinect's features were shown off during the conference including its ability to recognize and sign-in people, how it can track a person using its motarized tilt and using voice commands for things like accessing Zune or pausing a video. Microsoft also showed off VideoKinect, a video chatting program that will also be extended to Windows Live. Such a service would, in theory, allow the PC and Xbox to interact and video-chat together. Everything they showed seemed to work very well on stage and I hope it works that well once we get it into our living rooms this fall.

After leaked footage was found and later taken off by Activision yesterday, Nintendo has announced a revival of classic N64 first-person shooter, Goldeneye. The reimagining of the classic game will be available exclusively for the Wii this holiday season. The game received a uprorous applause from the audience for its updated visuals and classic gameplay, but to one's examination, you'll notice that Pierce Brosnan is nowhere in sight. The exlcusion may have to deal with the Activision wanting to use current Bond, Daniel Craig, as the star; how inconveinent of them.

Aside from the absence of Mr. Brosnan, Goldeneye will include split-screen and online multiplayer, eight classic characters, and 16 classic game modes, incuding paintball and the always nostalgia-inducing single player campaign. The game will also support the newly released Classic Controller Pro. Sadly, the banning of Oddjob from multiplayer was not mentioned.

The Zelda demo had some technical issues
Nintendo's E3 press conference got off to a surprising start with the first reveal of the newest Zelda for the Wii, titled The Skyward Sword. At first glance, the game borrows the art styles from its predecessors, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, all while retaining a much older Link. Zelda creator, Shigeru Miyamoto (via green screen) first demonstrated what would be new in Link's newest adventure, until the famed game designer did his best teleportation illusion. Donning a sword and shield like he did during the unveil of Twilight Princess in 2004, Miyamoto showed off Skyward Sword's newly designed gameplay and HUD.
