(Posted by: Harrison Milfeld) Is it just me, or do some of these Skyward Sword screens (most notably the first one at the bottom) seem a little darker in terms of lighting and atmosphere? I'm not one to complain, as Skyward Sword's art design has impressed me so far, but these new screens have caught quite a few eyes, including Kotaku. Maybe we're just overreacting, and the Gameshoe staff is just antsy to get their hands on Link's newest adventure.

(Posted by: Harrison Milfeld) ![]() Final retail version of the 3DS Despite the fact that we haven't gotten our hands on the device, we all know that the Nintendo 3DS is going to be one sweet, sexy handheld. However, ever since its coming-out party at E3 2010, Nintendo has been mum about the specifications of the device. Well, given the company's 3DS blowout this morning, we now have a handful of 3DS information for all of us to gloat over. The system will come packaged with a charging stand (picture below), AC adapter, contractable touch pen (stylus), 2GB SD memory card, a starter guide, and other manuals that will surely make you happy that you bought a sleek, new piece of hardware. The dimensions of the the 3DS when closed are 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, 0.8 inches tall and weighs in at 8 ounces. The upper screen's dimensions are 3.53 inches, wide screen with naked eye 3D support, 800x240 pixel resolution. The lower screen is measured at 3.02 inches and 320x240 pixels. The 3DS game cartridges will be the same size as the DS carts; their maximum memory will be 2 gigabytes as the system launches. sadly, battery life was not mentioned. Hit the jump to see the rest of the 3DS' specs. (Posted by: Harrison Milfeld) As mentioned earlier, the Nintendo 3DS will have full-fledged virtual console support for classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles (Note: it was reported that Game Boy Advance titles were included, but Nintendo has yet to comment). There were no specifics regarding pricing or what titles would be available during launch; however, Nintendo did show two games in action on the 3DS, which included Super Mario Land and Link's Awakening DX.
So, what Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles would you like to see on the 3DS' virtual console, readers? My vote's for a revamped Metroid II: Return of Samus. If this demand is not met, I will be sorely disappointed. During the Nintendo Conference held at Tokyo, Japan, the company first delved into a few unanswered questions regarding the Wiimote. That is, a Gamestop listing that showed Wii Motion Plus imbedded into the controller isn't just a ruse, rather it will be the standard Wiimote here on out. Although, the main course of this presentation was --of course-- the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo laid out all sorts of specifics on the handheld, which they're dubbing "a true portable console." The handheld will launch in Japan on February 26, 2011.There were no details about the exact U.S. and Europe release date for the 3DS, but Nintendo of Europe confirmed that it would be out by March 2011.
The list of details include the following:
(Posted by: Alex Deckard) Wow. How the hell am I supposed to explain Garry’s Mod? It’s almost beyond description. I guess I could start by saying that it’s less of a game and more of a tool. Why then, am I talking about it on a gaming website? I'll tell you why. Because it’s ball-punchingly awesome. When Valve released the Source engine in 2004, people were wowed by its ability to model physics events, facial expressions and environmental graphics. One person was so impressed that he decided to make a small Mod to play around with the physics engine. That man was Garry Newman, and that Mod was Garry’s Mod. It was released a mere five months after the engine itself, and over time, became more popular. It’s been distributed via Steam since 2006, and is currently on version ten. Why am I reviewing it now? Because it recently came out on the Mac, which means I finally have everything necessary to play it. (For the record, it requires at least one Source Engine game. I have five.) Now, to try and put in a review the various things that you can do in Gmod would be insane and very boring to read, so instead, I will describe my experience with playing it recently after the jump.

Not to be anti-climatic, folks, but there appears to be no major changes according to reports from Kotaku. The analog is in the same location (albeit with a neutral color) and the button set-up is untouched. What does appear to be new though is the handheld's stylus, which looks to be a tad more classier than we're accustomed to. The stylus will be length-adjustable as well. We'll have more from Nintendo's 3DS blowout in Japan when the conference has concluded. Announced yesterday at a press conference full of tech geeks, RIM's CEO Mike Lazaridis got onstage and started spilling information of their new hardware. The sleek new tablet will utilize an OS that was recently acquired when RIM bought a company called QNX. The tablet will be 7 inches of touch screen goodness and will support Flash 10.1, a point made to take a stab at Apple, who has yet to jump on the Flash bandwagon. Inside the tablet, a Cortex A9-based dual core 1GHz CPU will be handling all your duties along with 1GB of onboard RAM and a 3 megapixel front facing camera incase you ever have to video conference with someone. There's a 5 megapixel rear facing camera, an HDMI port, micro USB port, Bluetooth 2.1 ready, WiFi ready and weighs less than one pound. Sounds like a pretty packed in device that Blackberry is looking to hit a home run with. Considering the consequences of their smartphone market share that I talked about in an earlier post, Blackberry needs this tablet to do well to gain some of their swagger back. Enjoy some of Blackberry's press shots of the new tablet in our photo gallery below. (Posted By: Eric Rees) ![]() Just take a second to look at that poster. Think back and remember how hard you laughed at the tagline of the poster of "No Mercy" when you first saw it. Recall all the memories that the original Left 4 Dead brought you when you first played it, because that's what feeling washes over me when I see Bill, Francis, Zoey and Louis on the that poster. Valve's new DLC for Left 4 Dead and it's sequel allows you to play through the plot leading up to the point where players who purchased "The Passing" for L4D2 could see that one of the original members of the game had died. The original stars of the game fight their way to meet up with the members of the second game and this DLC will tell that tale. Although there is some good and bad news. Good news is that the DLC can work for L4D or L4D2, unlike the earlier DLC "The Passing" where L4D gamers were left out in the cold. Bad news is that for everyone on the Xbox 360, the DLC will cost 570 Microsoft points (7 real dollars) where as the DLC on PC and Mac will be released for free. Thanks Microsoft. This highly anticipated DLC will be available October 5. Who else is going to dust off L4D for this besides me? |
