Check out that snazzy anniversary logo.
For a while, Mario fans in North America were a little upset when they heard that Japan would be (and possibly exclusively) getting the Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition for the series' silver anniversary. It seemed as if the Mario faithful of America would be missing out on a chance for a nice gaming collectable. Well, finally, the limited edition set will be arriving in North America on December 12. This of course comes a week after Nintendo announced Mario anniversary Wii and DS bundles (including some really nice artwork on the consoles to boot), so it seemed likely that the company would announce the release of Super Mario All-Stars.

This pristine package will include four classic Mario titles (Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels,  Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3), all of which will have updated graphics and sound, presumably the same from the original Mario All-Stars collection. The collection also includes a commemorative art booklet and a soundtrack dubbed Super Mario History, which brings together all the music and sounds that the series has to offer.

According to the press release, the soundtrack will contain the "first official release" of the "Super Mario Bros. Ground Theme," which is a memorable tune from the original game. To top it all off, this entire collection will only run you $30. That alone is enough incentive to have this package, even though the included Mario titles have been released in different formats over the past two decades.

PSP2 is...well it exists!

Well, here it is.  It’s the first glimpse of the PSP2.  Apparently, Sony has been showing it around behind closed doors.  This is all well and good, but that’s allegedly a picture of what they’ve been showing.  You’ll notice that it has a large screen.  That’s a touch screen, and it’s HD.  You’ll also notice that it has two analog nubs.  It is currently unknown as to whether or not they function as buttons, a la PS2/PS3.  One more thing you should notice is that the current design seems to barely leave room for a set of shoulder buttons, let alone 2.  This is the biggest potential problem with the design (from a strictly gameplay aspect).  See, with the simple addition of pressure switches under the nubs and another row of shoulder buttons, Sony can DIRECTLY port ANY PS2 game.  When you have the ability to have the same control schemes on portable and console, why wouldn’t you?  Oh well, there’s surely more to come.  It is worth noting that Sony is still having problems with overheating, but presumably they’ll fix that.  We’ll have more when it’s available.

Gameshoe forces Marching Mizzou to play Mario Bros. theme during critical football game

The field after the theme was played. Epic indeed.
You heard that right, folks. For those who were listening well during the Missouri/Oklahoma game (instead of being in a trance when Erin Andrews was on ESPN's broadcast), you might have heard a some-what popular video game theme that even your grandparents would remember. What theme am I talking about? Well, the one theme that has single-handedly been proven to cure cancer when one hears it and has been known to end international conflict in third-world countries. The theme I'm talking about, of course, is the Mario theme. During the game, Marching Mizzou kindly delved into their playbook and played one of the most popular (if not, the best) video game themes of all-time.

Now, you might be asking, "Why is this news to us?" Well, readers, it's because the theme came during a pivotal moment during the game, which was sure to catapult the winner into possible BCS Championship discussions. The theme was so powerful in all it's glory that it helped the Missouri Tigers beat the Oklahoma Sooners. No, it wasn't Missouri's top-ranked defense that helped or Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert's talent that got the Oklahoma monkey off our school's back. Hell, it wasn't even Gary Pinkel that helped. No, Koji Kondo's original theme for Super Mario Bros. ace the Missouri Tigers the confidence and may have made the players think that the Sooners were Goombas and Koopas.

Hit the jump to see how this was done.

You ever wondered what it would be like to see attorney Phoenix Wright argue over court proceedings with puzzle-solving intellect Professor Layton, all in one game? Looks like that pipe-dream is now a reality as developer Level-5 revealed a Professor Layton/Ace Attorney crossover for the Nintendo 3DS titled Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. No word yet if fisticuffs between the two will be included.

The game's story will revolve around a medieval background in which one of Phoenix Wright's clients is accused of being a witch. The villain in the game is "story teller," who seems to have a hand in the troubles of Mr. Wright's client. No release date has been announced, but a few animated cut scenes (embedded below) were shown, including what appears to be Layton and Wright arguing in court. Whatever the case (no pun intended, folks), this crossover is sure to get one Gameshoe staffer excited.

I think EA owes me a little money on the side for this game.

I can't tell you how many times I went around telling people to forget about the incumbent FPS franchise Call of Duty and pushed Medal of Honor on all of them. And now that the game is out, I see why Call of Duty is the incumbent.

Hit the break to read more.
