The field after the theme was played. Epic indeed.
You heard that right, folks. For those who were listening well during the Missouri/Oklahoma game (instead of being in a trance when Erin Andrews was on ESPN's broadcast), you might have heard a some-what popular video game theme that even your grandparents would remember. What theme am I talking about? Well, the one theme that has single-handedly been proven to cure cancer when one hears it and has been known to end international conflict in third-world countries. The theme I'm talking about, of course, is the Mario theme. During the game, Marching Mizzou kindly delved into their playbook and played one of the most popular (if not, the best) video game themes of all-time.

Now, you might be asking, "Why is this news to us?" Well, readers, it's because the theme came during a pivotal moment during the game, which was sure to catapult the winner into possible BCS Championship discussions. The theme was so powerful in all it's glory that it helped the Missouri Tigers beat the Oklahoma Sooners. No, it wasn't Missouri's top-ranked defense that helped or Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert's talent that got the Oklahoma monkey off our school's back. Hell, it wasn't even Gary Pinkel that helped. No, Koji Kondo's original theme for Super Mario Bros. ace the Missouri Tigers the confidence and may have made the players think that the Sooners were Goombas and Koopas.

Hit the jump to see how this was done.

So, how was this done? Well, yours truly had a hand in forcing the Marching Mizzou band director to play the song. They didn't believe Gameshoe when we told them about the theme's powerful melody and that it would help create the most epic weekend in the history of Columbia, MO. That's right, Gameshoe made the biggest video game plug in the short history of this website. Don't believe me, well you should. For those who say Gameshoe is full of it should be forced to play Atari Jaguar for a week straight. We worked hard to get our name out there and for Marching Mizzou to play Mr. Kondo's mushroom-induced opus. Those who say differently in the comments are liars and wish they had the power to do such a thing.

The moral of the story: Never underestimate the power of the Super Mario Bros. theme.

It wound up at Harpo's where some guys were cutting it up with a hacksaw and selling it off.
