We'd heard rumors over the past year that Veoh had begun restructuring and was looking to sell, but apparently no one was interested buying the site. Veoh will now undergo formal liquidation under chapter 7.
(Posted by: Kyle)Mashable reported today that Veoh, the once major competitor to YouTube, has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy. This is somewhat suprising considering at one point the web-video start up had raised more than $70 million from such backers as Goldman Sachs, Time Warner and Spark Capital who all wanted get in on the web-video craze after Google bought YouTube for $1.6 billion back in 2006. We'd heard rumors over the past year that Veoh had begun restructuring and was looking to sell, but apparently no one was interested buying the site. Veoh will now undergo formal liquidation under chapter 7.

(Posted by: Harrison)Nicholas Endean thought it would be a great idea to model a Monopoly board with Resident Evil-themed properties, considering Hasbro and Capcom weren't going to do it. Aside from the current Nintendo-themed Monopoly board, Endean has gone to great lengths to craft and edit each and every chance and community chest card for the game (expect a few of those corny one-liners from the original RE title to surface). Every location on the board has been replaced with one from Resident Evil, and it's all even been printed in color. Sadly, the only thing missing are the custom tokens and money. For shame. (Posted by: Harrison)Gameshoe reported a few weeks ago that Nintendo would soon be hyping a few of their upcoming titles for 2010. Well, let the discussions begin. Nintendo announced that they will showcase Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii, Metroid: Other M and possibly a surprise announcement on February 24 during their media summit. What could it be, you say? We'll have to wait and find out. The Wii Vitality Sensor and others will possibly have more light shed on them, but surprise titles? Oh, Nintendo, you just love to tease us. Cross your fingers for a next-generation Kid Icarus title, folks. Today, Ubisoft officially announced it's next big title: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Ubisoft's Paris studio is developing the game and it has been given a tentative release date of late holiday season 2010. Gamers who purchase Splinter Cell: Conviction will also be treated to a beta code for Future Soldier's online multiplayer which will launch this summer. Besides that, there aren't many details available, but Ubisoft promises it will "go beyond the core Ghost Recon franchise and deliver a fresh gameplay experience." Sounds like fun. As soon as we hear more, we'll let you know. That's right! It's that time of year already. Book your hotel rooms, buy your plane tickets and register for E3 2010! It will be held this year on June 15-17 in the Las Angeles Convention Center and I'm sure it will be just as packed as ever with sweaty gamers and gaming and technology journalists. I don't know if any of the Editors from Gameshoe will make it to E3 this year, but rest assured, when the time comes, we'll keep you updated on all the action! List of exhibitors after the break. Join us as we discuss New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and DS, the merits of handheld gaming, Wii with HD, NBA Jam, bill Clinton Vs. Barack Obama, and then things get a little frisky when Kyle has a bit too much to drink! (Sorry for the sound quality, we couldn't get into the studio this week so we recorded it on my macbook. Also, something happened during editing and we lost Sam's tech talk section, so this week ran a little short.... Enjoy!) Download Gameshoe Episode 2 Here or stream it from the bottom of the Podcasts page! I don't know about you, but I was a little disappointed in this year's Super Bowl commercials. But one that got me excited was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time trailer; producer Jerry Bruckheimer's adaptation of the long-running video game franchise. Much was shown in the 30-second bit, but all we know is that it will be high on action and Sir Ben Kingsley appearances. I may be skeptical on this one, but given the star power involved in this film, we may see a decent flick on our hands. Will Bruckheimer and Disney's attempt to wash away the bad taste from previous video game to movie adaptations finally be erased? We'll have to wait til May to find out. Until then, enjoy the trailer embedded below. If you were watching the superbowl tonight (as most people were) you probably saw the Dockers "Free Pants" commercial. It seems Dockers underestimated the number of people who would be interested in a free pair of pants. Soon after the commercial aired, the Dockers website crashed harder than Oceanic 815. Yep... that was a Lost joke. The website seems to be back online now, although it's still not very responsive. So if you want to try and get some free Dockers then head on over to : www.dockers.com/freepants Good luck! Let us know if you score some free pantalones! If you're one of the few who still plays Halo 2 on Xbox Live diligently, then you better make it count. Microsoft announced that online play for original Xbox consoles and titles - including those played on an Xbox 360 - over its Xbox Live service will soon be discontinued. The cut off will take take place on April 15th, which will mark the end of many years that Halo 2 has flourished on Xbox Live. Xbox Live's Larry Hryb says this wasn't a decision made lightly, as many of the titles for the original Xbox, with online play, solidified the foundation for Microsoft's behemoth of a service.
Hit the jump to read the full statement from Marc Whitten For a limited time if you preorder THQ's new game "Metro 2033" on Steam, you will automatically get a free download of "Red Faction Guerrilla!" (Normally $20.) Red Faction was a great game from 2009 and, in my opinion, highly underrated. If you haven't played through it and you want to take a gamble on THQ's new title, I would definitely recommend picking these two games up during this Steam sale. |
