We all know how it feels. The recession has kicked our unemployed butts to the curb and we're doing our best to survive its torture. In the midst of the chaos, one video game company not named Nintendo seems to have turned a profit over the past nine months. That company is Capcom. Compared to the same period last year, the Japanese publisher's net sales were up 5.9 percent, operating income was up 84.3 percent, ordinary income was up 127.5 percent and net profit was up a staggering 865.9 percent.
With the last bit of information, that translates to a $19.1 million dollar increase over last year. The games responsible for this economic turnaround for the publisher included Mega Man on the DS, Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth on the DS, Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii (which will hit the U.S. this April), Monster Hunter on PSP and Resident Evil 5 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Other titles such as Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles and the Okami port on the Wii were met with "slow sales," which Capcom stated during their initial press announcement.
