French developer Quantic Dream has finally announced a firm release date for their heavily anticipated new title, Heavy Rain. According to reports from Sony, the Playstation 3 exclusive will be available in North America on February 23 and will then ship a few days later on February 26. Japan will receive the game on February 8. In addition, pre-ordering the game at GameStop, GameCrazy, or Amazon.com comes with "The Taxidermist," the first of Heavy Rain's episodic Heavy Rain Chronicles featuring one of the game's four main characters in a unique vignette.
Quantic Dream originally announced Heavy Rain back at E3 2006 and has since been through a long development cycle. Details about the plot of Heavy Rain remain scarce, but director David Cage has stated that the plot would be a "very dark film noir thriller with mature themes" without any supernatural elements. Cage has also gone on the record that the plot's real message is about "how far you're willing to go to save someone you love."
