Despite all the crying that EA is doing, the rest of the video game industry just reported their best month ever, having pulled in some five and a half billion dollars during the holiday season of 2009. These numbers put the industry total for 2009 at $19.66 billion.

Hardware sales, up 16 percent over 2008, seemed to be the saving grace for the industry last year. Software sales on the other hand went down by 11 percent. Moving into Q1 2010, it seems like a lot of companies are looking for an increase in software sales as there are several big budget, blockbuster games set to release in the very near future. Also, Microsoft and Sony plan to release their motion controllers sometime this year, so it may turn out to be the year of the motion peripheral.
