French developer Quantic Dream has finally announced a firm release date for their heavily anticipated new title, Heavy Rain. According to reports from Sony, the Playstation 3 exclusive will be available in North America on February 23 and will then ship a few days later on February 26. Japan will receive the game on February 8. In addition, pre-ordering the game at GameStop, GameCrazy, or Amazon.com comes with "The Taxidermist," the first of Heavy Rain's episodic Heavy Rain Chronicles featuring one of the game's four main characters in a unique vignette. Quantic Dream originally announced Heavy Rain back at E3 2006 and has since been through a long development cycle. Details about the plot of Heavy Rain remain scarce, but director David Cage has stated that the plot would be a "very dark film noir thriller with mature themes" without any supernatural elements. Cage has also gone on the record that the plot's real message is about "how far you're willing to go to save someone you love." Stay tuned in the coming weeks when we review Heavy Rain. Music is another one of our passions here at Gameshoe, so we were pretty excited when EA announced the release of three new game soundtracks from their upcoming blockbusters! Here's a rundown of the info: Mass Effect 2 Soundtrack: January 18th (2 hours of music) Battlefield Bad Company 2 Soundtrack: February 1st (20 min. of music) Dante's Inferno Soundtrack: February 8th (90 min. of music) We've come up with a new review system...well kinda. Our game reviews will work on a system of 1 to 11 where 1 is a really bad game like "Princess Tomato In the Salad Kingdom," and 11 is an amazing game that is not only enjoyable, but will take a place in gaming history as remarkable or groundbreaking in some way. Got it? Good! New Reviews coming soon! As an aspiring student studying journalism, the video game industry has opened a lot of ears to those looking for a chance to cover a certain entertainment medium. Given how I am one of those few people who would love to cover all things not related to politics or law, video game journalism offers me and anyone who has ever picked up a controller a chance to voice their opinions without the boundaries of other niches.
After putting out a steady stream of DLC for their blockbuster RPG Dragon Age: Origins, Bioware recently announced a full, on-disk expansion titled “Awakening.” It will follow the main character as he (or she) works to rebuild the Grey Wardens and uncover the ancient secrets of the darkspawn. This expansion includes a higher level-cap, five (that’s right five!) new party members, new spells and abilities, and perhaps most exciting: the ability to re-spec your character. Regret spending those hard-earned points on dual wielding skills because you wanted to see if you could hold two crossbows? Well this expansion pack is for you! It’s slated to be released March 16th for all major platforms with a price of $39.99. Does Netflix have its eyes on the Wii? Perhaps. At CES yesterday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced that the chances of Netflix working with Nintendo are “excellent.” He never actually mentions the Wii per se, but unless Nintendo has some kind of new gadget up their sleeve, there’s a pretty good chance we will see streaming movie rentals relatively soon on the Wii. Unfortunately, if this is the case, the Wii’s lack of HD support might still sway some buyers to use Netflix on one of the other two consoles that do support HD video. Well, HD or not, at least you know you soon won’t have to do without your Netflix fix no matter which console you choose to own. The only memory I really have of playing arcade machines is the MKII cabinet that was in the Pizza Hut my family used to frequent. Which is why I'm not all that excited about Microsoft's newest xbox live scheme: the "Game Room" |
