(Posted by: Alex Deckard) Well, the MacBook Pro line got a shot in the arm. Apple has silently released the newer, beefier Pro model, and it's looking...pretty modest. There are no cosmetic changes (which is great, because people like me won't be OBVIOUSLY using inferior computers, just secretly), probably on account of how great the computers already look. They are, however, adding in the new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, NVIDIA's GeForce 330M graphics card, a video-card switcher to save battery power, and a 10 hour battery life, which is a step up from the eight hours we get now. Of course, this doesn't mean you get 10 straight hours of uncharged internet. That will still suck power, but this new MacBook Pro is looking sharp.

(Posted by: Kyle) Last night on Jimmy Fallon, Cliffy B officially announced Gears of War 3 on the Xbox 360. This was no real surprise to anyone, but we're excited none the less. Along with the announcement came the official Gears of War 3 trailer titled "Ashes to Ashes," which reveals some new weapons, characters and enemies. Also, this game will feature 4 player coop with Dom, Cole, Baird and a "variety of other characters." The story is set 18 months after Gears 2 and the trailer shows a location called "Char." The game is set to launch in April of 2011.
Stay tuned for more Gears 3 info! (Posted by: Kyle) You may have heard some rumors over the past few years about a new Halo game. No not Reach, a Halo MMO with a fat budget that Microsoft claimed would one day be a WoW killer. Well, the big M has officially killed this title while it was in development by Ensemble. Why you ask? Microsoft cites an industry move toward more casual games as the reason the title was canceled. I guess that means instead of a new MMO, we can look forward to a host of mini-game collections on XBLA... oh goody. (Posted by: Harrison) In breaking news today, Jason West and Vince Zampella, the fired former lead creators of the Modern Warfare series, have formed a new company, Respawn Entertainment. Not only that, but EA, their former rival is supporting them. The controversy surrounding the reasoning behind Activision/Blizzard ousting the two creators still has fans up in arms, but the announcement of West and Zampella teaming with Activision's main rival is even more shocking. The forming of this new studio for EA comes a few days after Activision sued West and Zampella for misdeeds and subterfuge designed as an alleged attempt to "steal the studio."
Zampella mentions that Respawn Entertainment, "marks a fresh start" for the two. As of now, no details have surfaced about what new title the studio will be developing. The recent release states that "the company will focus on creating state-of-the-art gaming experiences for global audiences." Sounds like a ballsy move with great opportunities for success. According to a rumor from The Consumerist, customers would "be able to choose from over 3,000 different games, including many popular new releases." When Netflix was asked if they would consider moving into games, a company spokesperson said, " Movies are perennial. A great movie from 1972 is still a great movie but who wants to play Madden '95?" I guess that's a no. Paragraph.
(Posted by: Harrison) There are reports coming from various outlets that games such as Mindsweeper, Solitaire, Freecell and Checkers (yes, I'm not making that up) could have Live support in the near future. That means these games could have achievements, leaderboards and chat support. Despite that this is only a rumor, this could open up a new audience for Xbox Live. Stay-at-home moms, soccer moms and teachers who hide behind their desks to get through the day, could be challenging your rank. I can now just hear the massive amounts of parents in the world gunning for higher gamerscore. It's a scary thought. Until this is labeled as fact, I'll be emailing Apple for an Number/Math Munchers remake on iPhone or XBLA. The world demands it.
(Posted by: Harrison) Nintendo today announced the next iteration of their ever-so popular Pokemon series for the DS, titled Pokemon Black and Pokemon White. According to Joystiq, Nintendo is promising that “every aspect will be reborn innovatively” with the series in order to make it fresh. The Pokemon series continues to sell well both in Japan and North America, but a fresh feel to the franchise would not hurt. Don't get anyone wrong, the Pokemon series of games is still easy to pick up and addictive, but the time seems right according to Nintendo and developer Game Freak. More information will be announced come April 15. Stay tuned, Poke-freaks.
(Posted by: Harrison) I did some fumbling around today on Live and noticed that Microsoft Points are now offered in increments of 400. Previously, Live offered increments of 500 points, which made it difficult to balance our checkbooks if we only wanted a 400 point XBLA title. Gone are the leftover points that meant little to many Xbox owners (unless you really do spend a lot of points on avatar clothing). Now, go off and buy those XBLA titles you wanted badly, because you were forced before to hop off the couch to buy a Microsoft Points card.

Still, when we hear that once-nu-metal now alternative-metal band, Linkin Park, is developing an iPhone game, we start to get worried. In the game titled Linkin Park: 8-Bit Revolution, you control chibi-style avatars in order to fend off an evil corporation. If that doesn't sound Linkin Park-related, then I don't know what does. The game looks quirky, but kind of appealing in a sense. Although, I don't expect to play all the way through this game, Linkin Park is offering a free new track titled "Blackbirds" for beating the game. (Posted by: Harrison) Tim Tebow: EA's new cover boy EA Sports really is terrible at keeping a secret over this year's NCAA '11 cover athlete. First rumors, then alleged reports of who was going to be on the cover. Former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow gracing the cover of the game was surely a definite, according to a recent slip from his agent. Well, today ESPN confirmed that Tim Tebow will grace the cover of NCAA Football '11, and this time, he will be on each port of the title (unlike previous years). The last player to appear on every console cover was Boise State QB Jared Zabransky. Hopefully, this get's some NFL teams some attention, because Tebow's apparent NFL draft stock has gone from dreadful (some said he would not be right for the NFL) to possible first-round pick. Gameshoe will post the official cover in the near future. |
