During Episode 9 of the Gameshoe Podcast, the gang got into a short discussion about former Gamespot reviewer, Jeff Gerstmann. For those of you who don't know, Gerstmann was dismissed at editorial director at the site in 2007. Some say this had to deal with his review of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, which Eidos Interactive said was intolerable. The game was heavily advertised, so Gerstmann told it like it was in his review but suffered a ridiculous consequence. So, Gamespot terminated him and gamers threw their arms up in anger. Since then, Gerstmann co-founded Giant Bomb, which we love to shamelessly plug. Enjoy Penny Arcade's take on Gerstmann's story. We salute you, Gerstmann, for the balls you had to write that review.

Modern Warfare: Frozen Crossing. A $209.42 fan film that's better than any video game movie4/7/2010 (Posted by: Harrison) There are bad video game fan films out there, and then there are really, REALLY terrible ones. These fan films are the ones that are of "so-bad-they're-good" quality, they make us fortunate that any series' foray onto the silver screen wasn't even more painstakingly awful (just watch the dozens of fan-made Mario films and you'll get the picture). Still, there's the folks at Corridor Digital, who spent a total of $209.42 (not counting the pay to the actors/actresses) creating a nod to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Take seven minutes of your time and watch this studio's attempt at making a decent Call of Duty short film; it's quite good.
This week we ramble on and on about our favorite Star Wars games, the twisted history of the Final Fantasy series, the iPad and the opportunities it has to be the king of rts consoles, the VDigi Wii upconverter module and Harry's test run with the Wii Netflix disk. This episode is extra large to make up for last week! He created such games as the Fable series, Black and White, and Populous. The man is an industry giant. He was even granted the Order of the British Empire back in '04. Now, he is on the short list to be one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of the year. Yes, this most important of lists may be paying homage to one of gamings greats. While Molyneux certainly deserves to be recognized, it can be argued that he's not "mainstream" enough to grace such a list. Frankly, this is an entirely legitimate argument, and his inclusion, coupled with the stunning victory of Christopher Poole, or, as he is known on the internet, "moot", last year, may be a sign that an online poll is not the best way to conduct this sort of endeavor. All that aside, congratulations to Peter Molyneux. May you continue to wow us with your psychotically ambitious projects. Some of our younger readers may not remember this game, but it was definitely one of the better Star Wars games of the time. It had blasters, lightsabers, and even cantina music. I can't wait for this to come out on PSN! (Posted by: Harrison) Whether you agree or disagree over Final Fantasy IX being the best in the series, there's no denying that it had its unique cast of characters. Now, those fond memories of the ninth game in the Final Fantasy series will soon be in a downloadable format. After weeks of teasing, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada confirmed during a brief Twitter video that Final Fantsay IX would be released on the PlayStation Network. Final Fantasy VII and VIII have already graced Sony's online network, so it was only a matter of time before the ninth game in the series was due for treatment. Now, we'll be waiting patiently for Final Fantasy III (VI for you hardcore fans) to get its PSN release. Sony, you better be listening! Microsoft is seeking compensatory damages and payments of royalties or profits made by Datel through selling these controllers. Microsoft also asked for an injunction to stop production of the controller. The patents violated are US Patents: D521015; D522,011; D547,763; D581,422; D563,480; and D565,668 (Posted by: Harrison) Whether or not Other M's release will be pushed back or remain intact, Nintendo was able to treat us to a new trailer of the game, complete with gameplay goodness. Despite how Team Ninja and Nintendo are pushing for a grander Metroid storytelling experience, longtime fans should not be scared; the gameplay is classic Metroid mixed with what made the Metroid Prime series of games so memorable. Although, we here at Gameshoe have yet to play Other M, so the jury is still up in the air. Metroid: Other M is currently scheduled for release for the Wii on June 27.
Special thanks to Infendo for the trailer.
